Steps for visualizing data using Microsoft Power BI 

We’ll be taking you down the lane to get familiar with the process of data visualization using Power BI. These steps will create a clear pathway for you to follow along. 

1) Install the setup

You need to download the Power BI on your desktop from Microsoft for further use. 

2) Major Building blocks

There are three main building blocks of Power BI that you need to get your hands on. It includes Report, Data, and Model.

3) Import data

Get your data from the available sources, either it is excel files or other online services such as Microsoft Dataverse. 

4) Shaping Data 

In this step, after importing data, we need to transform it using the power query editor available. It includes deleting unnecessary data, assigning proper names to correct rows and columns. Creation of custom columns, reformatting data, and then finally merging it into a structured format. 

5) Data Modeling 

After transformation of data, demonstrating the relationship between displays and tables in the model and relationship view. 

6) Calculation of measures 

DAX is used for the calculation of measures, necessary KPIs are calculated out of the data. DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) formulas are used for advanced calculations. 

7) Build reports 

Use visuals present in the visualization panel and build your report, either in tables, graphs, or maps.

8) Final Publishing
